GILBERT the Frog
This is Gilbert the Frog and he is the life blood of the environment. He likes to stay wet and hang out in the rainforest with all of our friends. He knows the importance of ‘Water for Life’ and the importance of a clean, green catchment. Sick Gilbert = A Sick Environment!
GARY the Goanna
My mate Gary is a ground-dwelling reptile living throughout the catchment. He spends his day scavenging for leftover food that humans leave behind, and he also loves to eat the eggs of other animals! He is sneaky and sly and watches what all the other Catchment Creatures get up to. Gary also loves climbing trees and will often camouflage himself against a Tall Spotted Gum tree.
CRAIG the Cockatoo
This is Craig and he is an endangered Glossy Red-Tailed Black Cockatoo. Craig is the guardian of the catchment, spending his days supervising all of the comings and goings. He likes to perch atop his large eucalyptus tree and inform our mates of what’s happening with his loud, raucous sqwark. Craig is very conscious of protecting the catchment and ensuring the life-giving water is around for generations to come.
TRINA the Tortoise
My friend Trina loves to laze in ponds and puddles near the spillways and walls of our dams. She is a strong swimmer with a long, elegant neck who spends her spare time doing synchronised swimming and soaking up the warm sun.
GUS the Gudgeon
My friend Gus is in charge of the Wivenhoe waterways. He loves conservation and talking about the need for clean and green catchments. He loves clean water as dirty water threatens our mates and their survival. Gus gets very angry when he sees pollution happening in the dam!
BARRY the Bass
This is Barry and he is a very lazy fellow. Barry is an introduced species, preferring to chase a fisherman’s hook rather than find his own food. He loves to live in healthy, clean water and given the chance, Barry and his bass buddies can grow quite large and fat!
PETA the Perch
This is Peta the Perch and she is super sporty. Her species were introduced to the dam as recreational fish and are now a much sought after prize by many fisherman. She likes to dart and weave and dodge through the water.
HUGO the Turtle
Say ‘G’day’ to my mate Hugo, the defender and protector of our healthy waterways. His favourite way to pass the time is to inform others about the importance of our waterways. When Hugo is not passing on the ‘Water for Life’ message, he can be found lazing around his nice, clean pond dreaming about the healthy waterways that make their way out to his mates living in Moreton Bay. Hugo just loves talking about the quality of water in our dams and waterways.
ERICA the Eel
This is Erica the Eel and she loves to slip and slide around the bottom of the dam. She has lots of other eel friends in the dam – and sometimes when it hasn’t rained very much you can see them swimming in the shallows. Her favourite thing to do is eat the small creatures living in the mud at the base of the dam.

KATIE the Koala
HI , I ‘m Katie the Koala and I am a marsupial. I am a leaf feeder who likes a number of Eucalyptus trees. Sometimes I only eat certain types of gum leaves .Gum trees provide good shelter and a great home for me . Much of my home is being cleared for development and this is making me a rare sight in many areas. I don’t like domesticated animals either who can scare me and force me to move to other areas. I am a Herbivore, that means plant eating. I have babies who live in a pouch. I have curved claws and long arms that help me to be a good climber. I am nocturnal spending my days mostly sleeping . I am quite shy and do not mix with other koalas much. Many gum trees are planted in the catchments to help ensure that I have a safe place to live.
POLLY the Pyhton
HI I am Polly the Python. I have a noticeably robust body and large head. I live in a number of different habitats across Australia ranging from floodplains and rainforests to open woodlands and rocky mountain ranges. I can also be located in the heathlands of southern Australia as well as inland watercourses and channels of drainage systems. I may be found sheltering in hollow logs, caves or other rock crevices, tree hollows or disused burrows. I am also infamous for making the ceilings of human dwellings their home. I feed mainly on mammals and birds. I really love the beautiful colours of my skin making me very pretty !
