How does the program work?
The competition for 2011 will run from term 2 , 2011 until the 20th November, 2011. Teachers planning for 2012 can enter the competition from the beginning of term 1, 2012 and the comptetition will close at the end of term 3, 2012.

Interested teachers and their classes can access the free online resource kit including program scenarios, activities, Lesson plans, worksheets, factsheets and background information.

The information will assist students to learn about a range of factors associated with water both now and into the future.

Topics include a wide range of water related areas including:

  • Energy and climate and how it relates to water
  • Economic impacts of the need for water
  • Social impacts of droughts and floods and water supply
  • Environmental impacts associated with water supply

Teachers and their students are encouraged to chose one of the 12 curriculum integrated scenarios for 2011 and after interpreting it and studying it, present a piece of work that best represents the scenario.

Entries can be by team or individual. Teachers are encouraged to select the most innovative, challenging, comprehensive and thought provoking pieces of work to enter the competition .

What are the categories?
There are four categories for students to enter and win prizes: Year 1-3, Year 4-7, Year 8-10, Year 11-12.

Students and teachers can choose from a wide range of options to submit their ideas. How you present your project is up to you. Some examples could include:

Essay, Film, Model, Poster, Photo collage, Newspaper story, Play, Presentation, Mural, Song, Illustrated story book, Board game.

Please remember that entries will be accepted via the Up A Dry Gully website or post. Therefore if a model is made, it would need to be filmed or photographed and then that image of the model will be emailed through to the Up a Dry Gully team.

Why enter?
Increase students’ understanding of environmental issues through topical, interactive, curriculum-based activities.

How to enter

  1. Register your school online and receive a Resource Kit
  2. Arrange a guest visit by a Up a Dry Gully competition representative
  3. Register each student name online
  4. Prepare your submission
    All entries must be entered via the “Submit Entry” page within this website unless otherwise specified. A photo or video of your project must be submitted so the judges can see your creation. All photographs must not exceed 2mb in file size and video files must not exceed 20mb in file size.

    If your files exceed the limits listed above they can be written to DVD and sent via post to:

    We can accept the following file formats mpeg, wmv, mov, avi, pdf, zip, ppt, doc, docx, jpeg or gif formats.

    For submission of multiple files please package up via a .zip file.
    To do this on a PC:
    1. Drag and drop all your files into a folder
    2. Right click folder > Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder
      This will compress all your files into a .zip file
    3. Submit this .zip file as your entry.

    To do this on a Mac:
    1. Drag and drop all your files into a folder
    2. Hold down your control key > compress >
      This will compress all your files into a .zip file
    3. Submit this .zip file as your entry.

  5. 2011 entries must be received by Friday 18th November, 2011.
    2012 enries must be received by Friday 21th September, 2012 (end Term 3)

What are the prizes?
All registered users receive a Certificate of Participation.

The winning team in each category will receive a trophy and prizes to be awarded to the students, teacher and school.
